Treatment Inner Image - Haymarket Dental

We love composite bonding at Haymarket Dental.

It can be used to create beautiful smiles in a very non-invasive way, usually with no drilling of the teeth, and it is completely painless. Most patients fall asleep during this procedure!

Composite bonding is an equal mixture of science and art. At Haymarket Dental, we’re fortunate to have talented cosmetic dentists with a keen eye for natural anatomy and detail.

You can expect your composite bonding treatment to fix:

  • Discoloured tooth shade.
  • Chips and minor breaks.
  • Small gaps between each tooth.
  • Misshapen teeth.
  • Lack of symmetry across your smile.
  • Your tooth-to-tooth ratio.

Why choose us for composite bonding?

We have earned an excellent reputation over time for our cosmetic dental treatment. Our ethos is to use minimally invasive techniques to achieve maximum-impact results.

  • Gentle process: Composite bonding generally does not require the removal of your existing tooth structure. The resins are carefully layered and shaped directly to the tooth.
  • Low-hassle: Composite bonding doesn’t involve any anaesthetic or drilling, and results are seen on the same day.
  • As unique as you are: As a team of committed dental professionals, we know there is no room for one-size-fits-all when carrying out game-changing composite bonding treatment.

Your treatment is 100% tailored to you. The tooth is shaped in accordance with your smile as a whole, and our detail-oriented dentists will shade-match its shade to fit in with your natural tooth shade.

How it’s done

Step 1: Consultation

Your consultation is an informal chat about how you would like to change your smile. Whether you’d like to change the appearance of 1 or more teeth, we can help. We’ll guide you through the steps involved and let you know about the limitations and benefits of composite bonding in more detail.

Step 2: Your personalised plan

A custom plan is established to meet your treatment goals. They will run through exactly what the plan is for your smile, and only go ahead once you are entirely happy.

Step 3: Let’s get to work

Your dentist will get to work by applying small amounts of tooth-coloured composite resin to your smile. A blue light is used to harden the resins, which are carefully sculpted into place by your dentist.

Each tooth being treated is then polished to mimic the real tooth enamel.

FAQs

What does composite bonding do?

Composite bonding can address tooth discolouration, small gaps in between your teeth, and minor chipped or cracked teeth. It’s often used in combination with teeth whitening, which can be performed before composite bonding to enhance the results of composite bonding.

Will I be able to eat normally after composite bonding?

Yes. It may feel a little alien at first, but you can comfortably bite down and chew on foods of all textures.

We recommend avoiding biting on ice (and any hard foreign objects), which could chip the composite from your tooth.

Who is most suited to composite bonding?

Good dental health is required before composite bonding. We also recommend composite bonding to patients whose teeth are well-aligned. If your teeth are not straight, Invisalign® may be a better option to have done first.

If you’re seeking a longer-lasting solution for imperfect teeth, you may be better suited to veneers (which can last for 15+ years).

What is the difference between composite edge bonding and composite veneers?

Composite edge bonding is applied to the edges of the teeth and is good for smaller chips and changes to the tooth edge. This is often feathered up the front surface of the tooth, but does not cover the whole front surface.

Composite veneers would cover the whole front surface of a tooth, which means that we can change teeth more dramatically. This is a more invasive procedure.

Will people know I’ve had composite bonding done?

Our dentists are complete perfectionists in everything they do. This means that your newly treated tooth will look completely authentic. The line where the resins meet your natural tooth structure will be practically invisible, and people need not know you’ve even had bonding done.

Composite bonding or porcelain veneers – which do I choose?

Porcelain veneers offer a long-term solution for improving your smile, lasting for 15+ years. Porcelain is known for being one of the most tooth-like materials in dentistry, capturing the translucency of tooth enamel. 3 or 4 appointments are usually needed to have porcelain veneers planned and fitted.

Composite offers natural-looking results, especially when carried out by experienced cosmetic dentists, such as our team at Haymarket Dental. Composite bonding loses its lustre more quickly than porcelain veneers and is not as strong as porcelain.

We recommend that composite bonding be polished every year. Composite bonding will last 5-8 years if looked after, and we have follow-ups lasting longer.
