Treatment Inner Image - Haymarket Dental

Our crowns are true works of craftsmanship and precision, made using our state-of-the-art CEREC technology.

Crowns provide a long-term strengthening aesthetic solution for teeth that have become vulnerable due to decay or damage.

How CEREC technology works

Our CEREC machine makes it possible to create ceramic crowns in just one day, saving you valuable time. The ceramic used to create your crown is biocompatible and looks almost identical to real tooth enamel.

The CEREC system integrates a digital impression-taking system that streamlines your experience and significantly improves comfort levels (we rarely use uncomfortable impression putty, which can often cause a gag reflex in patients and lead to debris in the mouth).

The mapping technology used for CEREC crowns creates a comprehensive representation of your mouth down to the finest detail. The accuracy of this system accelerates the crown process, with no compromise on the quality of treatment.

How it’s done

Step 1: Consultation/Examination

An examination scan is performed using an intra-oral camera, which generates a colour 3D model of your teeth. Using this model, your dentist can accurately and quickly identify the need for a dental restoration.

Step 2: Milling your CEREC crown

The CEREC milling unit creates your bespoke crown from a piece of high-grade ceramic. The crown can then be fitted, using dental cement.

FAQs

What is a crown?

A crown is a cap that fits over the whole of a tooth’s surface, restoring it after dental decay or a tooth fracture has occurred, thus providing aesthetic and biting function.

Why choose CEREC crowns over traditional crowns?

CEREC crowns are considered a premium crown planning and fabrication process. Reasons to choose CEREC crowns over traditional crowns include:

  • They’re made from high-grade biocompatible ceramic. We only use Emax.
  • The whole process is carried out in one day over 2 appointments (traditional crowns can take 2 or 3 appointments, with usually 2-3 weeks between appointments).
  • 100% digitised process (no manual dental impressions).
  • They’re placed with precision to mimic how your natural teeth sit in your mouth.
  • 100% metal-free.
  • Very precise in creating a long-lasting, well-fitting restoration.

How long do crowns last for?

Crowns are made of inert materials that do not deteriorate over time. However, the underlying tooth is still prone to decay and gum disease.

Ceramic is a strong material for dental restorations, but like real tooth enamel and dentine, it is still prone to cracking.

Avoid chewing excessively hard substances like ice or bones. Daily brushing and flossing are essential for maintaining good oral health as well as keeping the crown in good condition.

Regular check-ups will enable your dentist to detect any problems with your crown and recommend necessary treatment.
